AKRON, Ohio — The highly anticipated LeBron James Family Foundation's "House Three Thirty" officially opens to the public Thursday. Market St. It is two blocks from the I Promise School and close to the I Promise Village, which provides transitional housing for I Promise families dealing with homelessness. “A lot of our research when we started was sitting and, honestly, talking to LeBron and [his mom] Gloria, ‘What would have helped you growing up in Akron? ’ So that has extended to our families and what would they want to see,” Campbell said. “My dream was always to put Akron on the map, so to have a place in my hometown that allows me to share my journey with my fans from all over the world means a lot to me,” said James in a statement. Inside, people can watch performances, participate in games, grab food or a coffee from a number of different shops, and learn about finances at the Chase bank within the building. Training is underway for the Taco Shop by Old El Paso, the PepsiCo Foundation Training Kitchen, the Smucker Hometown Hall for public and private events, the one-of-a-kind LeBron James Sports Bar and other training areas. On Thursday, attendees will have access to maps of House Three Thirty to enable them explore the site at their leisure, possibly finding special entrances to hidden rooms, the foundation said. The Smucker Hometown Hall will be a private and community events space, while a wine room and a den will host smaller gatherings. The Old El Paso Taco Shop will enable Taco Tuesdays at House Three Thirty. With large windows to see into the kitchen, the restaurant also has a training kitchen for workers, Campbell said.
It also has hosted events for the foundation, including a gathering for Akron school teens during NBA All-Star Week in Cleveland. Like the other venues inside the House Three Thirty that includes a Starbucks and a gift shop, proceeds from the museum will benefit those who are part of the foundation's job and career training programs. In the back space, Reedy said, there's also an in-house barber and beauty shop where workers can get a free haircut or style. Campbell said from a practical standpoint it allows flexibility in scheduling and staffing but also offers hand's on experience to a variety of potential career paths. The reason for not opening everything at once, Campbell said, was so the workers can get used to working in the space and more employees can be trained in the coming days and months as new amenities are added. On the first day, the Starbucks Community Store where guests can order drinks and buy some treats along with the retail shop that sells branded merchandise and items from Akron artists and entrepreneurs will be open.
